4 wheeling w/Conrad on the beach : Erin and I had no clue what we had gotten ourselves into when we agreed to go 4 wheeling on Stockton beach with our friend Conrad. We pictured happy easy cruising along the water.. not so.... it was like driving around on sand dunes... we were terrified! to end our day, he drove over a small dune and crashed basically into a tree, getting stuck in the sand.. we had to flag down another truck that happened to be out there (1 of maybe 2 we had seen that whole day) and they had to pull us out. What an adventure!

Formal Dinner 3.14 : Formal Dinner was a big gathering for everyone in Edwards Hall, where we were served dinner, had a speaker, and everyone had to wear these black robes. Had there been floating candles, it would've been like we were in Harry Potter. It was a lot of fun though and happened a couple of other times during the semester as well.

Blue Mountains 3.22-3.23 : This was our first trip, of many, to the Blue Mountains. What an incredible place, one of my favorites in Australia! We spent the weekend, went on a hike down The Grand Staircase (over 1,000 steep, scary stairs!) and back up a really scary railroad that felt like a crazy rollercoater ride! Definitely something everyone should experience.

Making dinner @ Conrads 3.28 : A few of us decided we really missed American food, and cooking, and decided to take over our friend Conrad's kitchen to make Fettuccini Alfredo. We found a recipe online and didn't realize it wasn't in metric, our first problem. It was a pretty interesting ordeal overall, but turned out to be a fantastic meal.

Jervis Bay 3.7-3.9 : I was told that the whitest beaches in the world can be found at Jervis Bay, Australia. I don't know about *the* whitest, but it was up there, and very very pretty! Lana and I met up with some of her friends from Chicago who were spending a year in Australia at a bible camp, and took a weekend to go to Jervis Bay, camping and scuba diving. Definitely a wonderful trip. (I saw my first waterfall on this trip too- in a misty rainforest that was also amazingly beautiful)

Lana's Bday Sunrise 4.6 : The main event for Lana's birthday was dragging us all out of bed on the morning of April 6, around 4:30 AM!! We all piled into Renee's car and drove to the beach. We ate ice cream and english muffins and watched the sun come up. It was a really cool idea, and what a great way to start your birthday. A little early, but it was perfect.

Sydney 3.29-3.30 : All of the kids involved with the Iowa Regents Study Abroad (ISU, UNI and Iowa) spent a weekend in Sydney exploring and doing different tours. It was a lot of fun seeing Sydney, as well as getting to know other kids from Iowa. We were all on our own getting to Australia, finding housing and all that, so it was nice getting to meet up with people again from back home and have a weekend talking about all of the stuff we missed about Iowa while getting to see incredible areas of Sydney. We even found an ISU shirt for sale in a store in Darling Harbour that was almost $140!!

Lana's Bar Night 4.4 : Lana wanted everyone to go into town and to the bars for her birthday, so that is what we did, and what a night we picked. It was pouring down rain, the most memorable part of the night was running down the street from one bar to another, as we're running a couple of cops started yelling at us from up ahead. We couldn't understand what they were saying so we just kept running. About 2 seconds later, a car drives by and splashes us, so we are completley drenched! There was maybe a spot 3 inches of my pants that was dry, otherwise we were soaked to the bone! When we got up to the cops, they said they were trying to warn us about the car coming and the huge puddle we were running next to. Everyone had a pretty good laugh about Renee and my pants taking the most of the water.

My Birthday 4.15 : Most people brave death by drinking a great deal on their 21st birthday.. not me! Instead, I put myself in a tank full of sharks, and what an incredible experience it was. If I learned 1 thing on my birthday, it was- don't hold your breath when the sharks get close cuz they you start floating and get scared that you are gonna bump into them and they are going to eat you! (I learned that the hard way!) (oh, and no, I didn't get eaten, obviously) :o)

We spent the day touring the many wineries of the Hunter Valley Region (where Newcastle is located), and let me tell you, I wasn't the biggest wine fan until after this day. The cheese they give you at all the places was also amazing thought.. (who'd of thought I would like cheese?) :o)

We drove down (a 6 hour drive which consisted of the Chicago soundtrack over and over and over!) :o) and spent the weekend with her family and showing me around the capital. It is an amazing city, ironically designed by an American. I spent one afternoon with her mom and went out to Nasa's station- where one of the 3 largests Satallite dishes in the world is found. When I went back to the Airport thought, I found out my flight was delayed, and made friends with a family from San Diego and a guy from Ireland. They put us in a hotel and we had an extra 24 hours to just chill with my new friends. Not such a bad situation, but by this point I was pretty anxious to get home.
